Questa Leica M8 presentata al Photokina 2006 e oramai superata dalla più recente Leica M9, è sicuramente una macchina fotografica non comune sia per la storia della casa costruttrice e sia per il suo elevato costo, così come da tradizione.
Il design è naturalmente quello classico, si vuole come sempre riprendere la linea delle più vecchie macchine a telemetro della serie. La forma risulta essere leggermente più bombata nella parte anteriore rispetto alla parte posteriore mentre sia in alto che in basso la superficie risulta essere liscia e compatta.
In alto si trovano i comandi essenziali di scatto posizionati in maniera strategica e con una forma minimale. Si possono osservare a partire da destra il pulsante di scatto all'interno di un cerchio con tre impostazioni; una relativa allo scatto singolo, uno per lo scatto continuo, uno per il timer ed infine uno per lo spegnimento della fotocamera. A seguire si trova la ghiera relativa ai tempi di scatto, l'alloggiamento per il flash opzionale ed infine all'estrema sinistra un piccolo display raffigurante il numero di scatti rimanenti nella fotocamera, proprio come nell'analogico.
La Leica M8 utilizza un CCD da 10 Mpx con una superficie di 27 x 18 mm con un fattore di moltiplicazione di 1.33x, dunque maggiore dei tipici sensori APS-C .
A causa della mancanza di uno specchio nelle fotocamere a telemetro, questo tipo di macchine soffrivano di un leggero difetto di vignettatura ai bordi dell'immagine. Questo problema è stato risolto utilizzando il sensore appena descritto e inserendo le lenti in una posizione in grado di compensare l'immagine man mano che ci si avvicina al fotodiodo posto sul fondo del telaio.
Naturalmente il vantaggio maggiore per una fotocamera a telemetro come questa è che non essendoci parti mobili al suo interno, i tempi di posa si allungano notevolmente permettendo così al sensore CCD di eseguire scatti davvero notevoli anche in condizioni di scarsa luce.

This Leica M8 presented at Photokina 2006 and now exceeded by more recent Leica M9, a camera is definitely not common to both the history of the manufacturer and is due to its high cost, as well as tradition.
The design is of course the classic, as always you want to take the line of the older machines rangefinder series. The shape is slightly more rounded at the front than at the back while at the top and at the bottom the surface appears to be smooth and compact.
At the top are the essential controls shutter positioned strategically and with a minimal form. You can see from the right button click within a circle with three settings; relative to single shot, continuous shooting for one, one for the timer and finally one for turning off the camera. Following is the ring on the shutter speed, the space for optional flash unit and then to the left a small display showing the number of shots remaining in the camera, just like in analog.
The Leica M8 uses a 10 megapixel CCD with an area of 27 x 18 mm with a multiplication factor of 1.33x, then more typical APS-C sensors.
Due to the lack of a mirror in the rangefinder cameras, this type of machines suffered from a slight defect of vignetting at the edges of the image. This problem has been solved by using the sensor just described and by inserting the lenses in a position able to compensate the image as one approaches the photodiode placed on the bottom of the frame.
Of course, the greatest benefit for a rangefinder camera like this is that since there are no moving parts inside, the shutter speeds increase considerably thus allowing the CCD sensor to perform shots remarkable even in conditions of poor light.
