Per creare una atmosfera particolare durante una sessione fotografica sia all'aperto che all'interno di una qualsiasi struttura o casa, abbiamo bisogno di sapere come realizzare uno scatto con "luce calda" oppure uno scatto con "luce più dura o diffusa".

Nel primo caso è necessario sfruttare la fonte esistente cercando quindi di mantenere tempi di esposizione abbastanza lunghi, l'uso del cavalletto nella maggior parte dei casi per evitare il mosso e una apertura del diaframma il più possibile ampia a meno che non ci si trovi in un ambiente esterno in qui si vuole dare una certa profondità di campo.

Nel caso di luce artificiale come i fari di una macchina, una candela o una lampada è bene impostare il bilanciamento del bianco per la luce del sole , in quanto tale impostazione permette un più elevato livello di luce calda. Nel caso in cui l'illuminazione risulti troppo accentuata è possibile munirsi di riflettori ad ombrello o di softbox per correggere l'intensità e donare allo scatto un tono più morbido e piacevole da osservare.

Nel caso di illuminazione diffusa ed uniforme, possiamo permetterci di scattare in tutta tranquillità in quanto la luce sarà distribuita in maniera equivalente in tutta la scena permettendo di ottenere un equilibrio tra forme, luce e composizione.
